Interreg North West Europe – Linked Projects
CASCADE – THREE C – RE-DIRECT
Following the successful completion of the fore-runner projects THREE C and RE-DIRECT which explored the development of biochar based circular carbon economies, IrBEA and its transnational partners form across Northwest Europe have begun work on the follow up project, titled CASCADE- Circular Conversion Cascades to Transform Residual Biomass to Carbon Products.
The THREE C Project (Creating a Circular Carbon Economy) is a three year Interreg North West Europe funded project that is looking at the further development and introduction of economically viable value chains based on charcoal raw materials from waste biomass.
It is the follow-on project to the successful RE-DIRECT project which investigated the technical, social, environmental and economic viability of establishing indigenous biochar and activated carbon production. The initial scope of that project was looking at the production of activated carbon for the use in wastewater treatment plants. THREE C looks to build upon the success of that project and will look to promote the development of high quality products and value chains based on charcoal raw materials made from local biomass waste streams that are readily available in the participating regions of Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Netherlands and Ireland.
